A seldom seen console radio, the Kolster K-140 was sold at a price of $144 in 1932 by the struggling Kolster Radio Corporation that fell victim to the Great Depression. The K-140 sports two speakers and has an interesting "Tune-A-Lite" neon tuning indicator tube that was the precursor to magic eye tubes seen on several later 1930s radios for station strength indication. The neon bar would increase in length when a strong station was tuned in. I purchased this fine example from a fellow who had held onto it as a family heirloom and moved it to Texas from New York. The cabinet and chassis was in fairly decent original condition. The radio chassis needed new capacitors and some out of tolerance resistors replaced.
