Below is the schematic diagram of version 5 tesla coil.

Nothing special here, however a safety gap and some chokes would be safer.
Specifications
Primary: 11 turns of 1/4-inch copper tubing, about 0.2-inch spacing, tapped to about 8 turns.
Secondary: About 680 turns, 17" from top to bottom, #23 gauge magnet wire on 3-inch diameter PVC.
Spark Gap: Two 2"-long copper pipes spaced about 1/4 to 2/5 inches far apart.
Capacitor: MMC: One string of sixteen .15uF 3kV Cornell Dubilier capacitors, bought through Richardson Electronics. Overall capacity is about .0093 @ 48kV.
Input V: 9kV, 30mA
I first used the toroid from my version 5 tesla coil, but it worked poorly (even with the primary tuned). I got success with a spherical toroid that used to be a painted garden ball. It works beautifully with about 1-foot long discharges.
