VERSION 9 - SSTC

Back to Tesla Coils Index

Finally, my first SSTC (solid-state Tesla coil)! This is basically a near-exact clone of Steve Ward's MiniSSTC circuit; the schematic is reprinted here with credits to Steve Ward: http://www.electronixandmore.com/tesla/9schem.jpg. This circuit performs VERY well for a low power and simple SSTC. My design is based on Steve's final revised circuit, which employs only four ICs. I currently have a 2A fuse in this SSTC that will not blow if you set the duty cycle (ON time) on low and the pulse rate (OFF time) on low, although the fuse doesn't blow if the pulse rate is higher.

This SSTC currently produces roughly 6-inch discharges in the air. When the duty cycle is turned up, the output becomes more white and hotter.
