Kyocera QCP-6035

1998

The Kyocera QCP 6035, released in April 2001, was one of the first smart phones to appear on the market. It combined a digital phone, Palm handheld, and wireless modem into a single device. It featured familiar Palm OS features including a touchscreen with stylus navigation, Graffiti handwriting recognition, and infrared beaming. The phone supported Sprint PCS Wireless Web, allowing users to access email, corporate directories, and e-commerce services on the go. With a five-hour talk time, voice-activated dialing, and speakerphone capabilities, it was a pioneering attempt at merging PDA functionality with mobile communication. It ran on a 20MHz Dragonball EZ processor with 8MB of RAM. The Qualcomm's handset division (Qualcomm Personal Electronics) developed and released the Qualcomm pdQ smartphone 1999 that served as the precedessor to the QCP-6035 after Kyocera acquired the division in 2000.

You can read more about it in the original press release.
