Apple 110 Newton MessagePad
1994
The Apple Newton MessagePad 110, released in March 1994, was an evolution of the original MessagePad H1000, improving upon its design and usability. It featured a 20MHz ARM 610 processor, 1MB of SRAM, and a 320x240 monochrome pressure-sensitive touchscreen, making it more responsive than its predecessor. The 110 introduced a rubberized housing, making it more comfortable to hold, and improved battery life with support for AA rechargeable NiCad batteries. Running Newton OS 1.3, it refined handwriting recognition and added infrared-beaming capabilities for data transfer. While the H1000 pioneered Apple's PDA efforts, the MessagePad 110 marked a shift toward a more polished and user-friendly Newton experience.
