Texas Instruments 99/4A
1981
The TI-99/4A, released by Texas Instruments in June 1981, was an upgraded version of the TI-99/4, featuring a 3 MHz TMS9900 16-bit processor, 16KB of RAM, and improved TMS9918A color video display graphics with sprite support. It ran TI BASIC from ROM and supported cartridge-based software. The system introduced a full-travel keyboard, replacing the calculator-style keys of its predecessor, and offered peripherals like a speech synthesizer and Peripheral Expansion System for hardware upgrades. Initially priced at $525, the TI-99/4A saw massive price cuts due to competition, leading to its discontinuation in March 1984.
I traded my Tandy 102 for this TI computer in circa 2006.
