Majestic 103
Bands: AM
Tube Lineup: 27, 27, 27, 27, 27, 45, 45, 80
This magnificent Majestic 103 was manufactured by the Grisby-Grunow company in Chicago in 1930 and marketed at an original price of $225 complete with tubes or $203.50 without tubes. That is nearly $3300 in 2016 dollars! The 103 has a lovely walnut wood cabinet encasing a heavy model 100B TRF radio receiver chassis and a phonograph accessible by opening the top lid.
I found this nice example at the Fall 2015 VRPS radio auction and did not encounter a bidding war whatsoever presumably because of its size and weight. It is seriously very heavy that 2 men would not have an easy time lifting and moving it. The cabinet of my example was in fairly decent condition and only needed some shellac finish restoration essentially by using fresh shellac thinned by mixing with equal amounts of denatured alcohol and applied to the original finish to remedy the flakes and cracks.
