Admiral 166-5D "Streamliner"

1939

Bands: AM

Tube Lineup: 6A7, 6D6, 75, 25L6, 25Z5

A nice streamline design, this Admiral has a striking deco cabinet and a glass slide-rule dial that is similar to the 6M model, but without the brass dial escutcheon and sold a year earlier.

For Admiral radios from around this era, the first 3 digits in the model number before the dash is the cabinet color. The 166-5D is walnut brown bakelite that originally sold for $16.95, 167-5D is plaskon for $19.95, and the rarer 168-5D is "Onyx" beetle plastic for $22.95. The chassis model for technical information are the digits after the dash in the model number. The chassis model 5D for this Admiral can be found in the Rider schematics under Continental Radio & Television Corp.
