Packard Bell 5A "Kompak"
1938
Bands: AM
Tube Lineup: 6A8, 6K7, 6Q7, 6F6, 5W4
The Packard Bell 5A "Kompak" was made in Los Angeles, California and originally priced at $17.95 in 1938. The radio design incorporated a power transformer, which is unusual for a small plaskon tabletop radio of the era. This model was sold in other colors including brown bakelite. This is the second Packard Bell radio in my collection, the first was a model 5DA from 1947. Strangely like the first, this model came to my possession for free as a case without the chassis! I had to wait again for about 2 years to find a mating chassis to make this radio complete again.
